Coats for Children at Lowell

On December 16, 2010, SUN gave 75 coats to the children of Lowell Elementary School. The coats, each valued at $100, were bought at a heavy discount with $1000 dollars raised by SUN and a $500 match from the University Neighborhood Coalition (UNC). The coats contain a tag saying 'A gift from the people of SUN'.




Funding approved for the O'Donnell's Gardens Park Gazebo

On December 14, 2010, the San José City Council approved funding of the Gazebo for O'Donnell's Gardens Park. It's anticipated that the design process will begin in January 2011, construction will follow in April 2011 with completion of the project in July 2011. More details here.




2011 Crime & Gang Prevention Summit

The Crime & Gang Prevention Summit is sponsored by the Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force. The event will bring together representatives from the City of San José, non-profit organizations, and local neighborhoods to build and expand partnerships that will help make San José a safer place to live.

The summit will feature a number of hands-on workshops, a presentation on the Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force and a community resource fair. Workshop topics will include: Gang 101, Faith Based Approach, and Cleaner, Safer, and Engaged Communities.

Street lights going dark?

In 2008, the City of San José turned off 900 streetlights to save $77,000 a year (an x on a streetlight indicates it has been turned off permanently - see picture).
